Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome t my spellbook and thank you so much for tuning in to the 75th episode of our first level spell series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at dnd 5e Wrathful Smite spell which in my opinion is probably the best smite out of the actual spell list here. It is usable by the paladin and found in the players handbook at least the best smite we’ve covered so far. So we should all have access to it makes sense a paladin should be the only one to have it. That being said let’s take a look at its mechanics now.
- Damage: Melee weapon damage +1d6
- Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action
- Range: Self
- Duration: 1 minute (Concentration)
- Saving Throw: Wis
- Components: Verbal
- School: Evocation
- Damage Type: Psychic
The damage is your melee weapon damage+1d6 so pretty cool. Your cast time is one bonus action which is so nice. The range is self, the duration is one minute and it is concentration spell so bear that in mind. The saving throw once again wisdom, the components are just a verbal which is perfect means you can use a weapon and shield right here to caston it. The school is evocation and the damage type is psychic. Which is really great stuff.
The effect next successful melee hit, deal extra damage. The target must also make a wisdom save, on a fail the target is frightened for the spells duration. The target can also use actions to remake the wisdom check. With that out of the way let’s take a look at the full description.
Basically, at the next time you do hit with a melee weapon attack at the time of this 5e spell’s duration and also your attack deals an extra 1d6 psychic damage. In an addition, if the target was a creature, then it should make a wisdom saving throw or else it should be frightened of you until end of the spell.
Have you read maddening darkness spell 5e
So, like an action, the creature can able to make a wisdom check against your spell save DC for steeling its resolve and also end this spell.
Really good stuff there. If you’re unfamiliar with the rules involving the fragment condition, a frightened creature is disadvantaged on ability checks and attack rolls while the source of its fear is within line of sight. The creature can’t willingly move closer to the source of its fear. So pretty good stuff. Honestly the frightened condition is one of the best ones you get access to of those lower levels so. Be sure to include it in your character if you have the option to me. That being said let’s move along to some alternative uses.
One of the best alternative uses i can think of is use it as a way to cause enemies to our treatment. The friend condition would probably cause them to do that from a roleplay perspective. Thinking about it logically now you could also really use it to benefit yourself in competitive games. Once again posing that disadvantage you never girl with a mind of state could really turn this way of a sporting event right!
