Hello spellcasters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 44th episode of our cantrip series. This is also the final episode currently until the wizard adds a new cantrip by the way so this is kind of the finale.
That being said! today we’re gonna be talking about dnd 5e spell word of radiance usable exclusively by the cleric and found in the xanathars guide to everything as our most of the cool cantrips we got here. The mechanics are as followed.
- Evocation cantrip
- Damage: 1st:1d6, 5th:2d6, 11th:3d6, 17th:4d6
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: 5 feet
- Components: V, M (a holy symbol)
- Duration: Instantaneous
- Saving throw: Con
- School: Evocation
Your damage die is die 6 so not the best but also not the worst. Getting an extra one at fifth, 11th and seventeenth level for a total of 4d6. The cast time is one action, the range is 5 feet, the duration is instantaneous and the saving throw is a constitution one. The components are verbal and material, if you’re curious about the material component is simply a holy symbol.
The school is evocation which is kind of surprising but i would think divination but whatever and the damage type is radiant and this is our second cantrip that is radiant damage. So very cool they are very cool. Now let’s take a quick look at description and it’s intended for flavor purposes as well as understanding that we’re all using the correct wording here.
You do utter a divine word, and even burning the radiance which is erupt from you. Each and every creature depends upon your choice which you are able to see within a range must be succeeded on a Constitution saving throw or else you must be taken 1d6 radiant damage.
At Higher Levels: The spell’s damage increases by almost 1d6 whenever you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6).
So these it a must unpack there firstly you can choose which creature these effect even if multiple creatures are within range of this spell. Secondly all your theme to activate. It is just utter a divine word while holding your holy symbol essentially.
So that can be anything from your patrons a name to a certain religious word of your choosing, which is a very very cool and very useful. Well let’s take a quick look at an alternative use here, i could only think of one just because is a damaging cantrip and he’s got a whole lot of wording here to really exploit.
What i really want to play a chaotic good character that uses this spell to an extreme extent it is the way he would determine whether or not a person is righteous or not he doesn’t actually work that way but in his mind it would a true chaotic good. So he would speak the word and if you make it on in the constitution saving throw you are safe from him but if you fail and you take damage from word of radiance then he will attack for your unworthy. That would be a cool use for an outside of battle.
Spell Lists: Cleric
That being said! If you have any alternative uses or if you have any great stories involving this cantrip i would really love to hear them down in the comments as well everyone else checking out this article. That being said, i hope you all of you have a great day and as always happy casting and i’ll be in touch with you for the level 1 spells coming out sooner than you might think.
