Soul Cage 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spell book and thank you so much for checking out the 6th level spells series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the d&d 5e soul cage. It is usable by the warlock and the wizard and it is found in their spell lists. Of course it has found in the Xanathar’s Guide to Everything book so everyone should have access to it. Now without further ado let’s take a look at its mechanics here.

Mechanics

  • Level: 6
  • Casting time: 1 reaction, which you take when a humanoid you can see within 60 feet of you dies
  • Range: 60 feet
  • Components: V, S, M (a tiny silver cage worth 100 gp)
  • Duration: 8 hours
  • School: Necromancy

Description

Usually this spell snatches the soul of the humanoid like it dies and traps it inside of the tiny cage that you use for the material component. In any case the stolen soul would remain inside of the cage unless until the end of this spell or until you destroy the cage, which can end the spell.

While you do have the soul inside of the cage, you can simply exploit it in any type of ways that are described below. However you can easily use the trapped soul almost up to six times. Once you do exploit the soul for a final time (6th), then it is released, and then the spell ends. While a soul has been trapped, then the dead humanoid it came from can’t be revived.

Steal Life: Here you could use a bonus action in order to drain the vigor from the soul and regain 2d8 hit points.

Query Soul: You can easily speak to ask the soul a question (but no action is required here) and also it receive a brief telepathic answer, which you could understand regardless of the language used. In any case here the soul knows only what it knew in its life, but of course it should answer you truthfully and for the best of its capability. Of course finally the answer is no more than a sentence or two and might be cryptic.

Borrow Experience: You can use the bonus action here to bolster yourself with the soul’s life experience, by making your next attack roll, ability check, or else saving throw with an advantage. Suppose, if you do not use this benefit before any start of your next turn, then it is lost.

Eyes of the Dead: As per this you can use an action to name any place of the humanoid that you saw in life, which actually creates an invisible sensor somewhere in that specific place if it is on the plane of existence that you’re currently on. Of course the sensor remains for almost as long as you concentrate, up to 10 minutes (like if you’re concentrating on the spell). You do receive visual and the auditory information from a sensor as if you’re in its space using all of your senses.

Actually, here the creature which can see the sensor (like one using see invisibility or truesight) sees a translucent image of tormented humanoid whose soul you caged.
