Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking in to the 51st episode of our second level spell series. Today we have a really cool and in store for us. Today we’re looking at dnd 5e spell mind spike this amazing spell is usable by the sorcerer, warlock and the wizard.
It is found in the xanathar’s guide to everything book which is just great honestly tons of good stuff in there. So if you don’t have it already i would highly recommend getting it. This spell lends itself to a very unique play style and we’ll go over that in a little bit here but first let’s check out its mechanics so we know exactly what we’re talking about. Also read dnd 5e mind sliver.
- 2nd-level divination
- Damage: 3d8 (+1d8 per slot level above 2nd)
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: 60 feet
- Components: S
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour
- Save: Wis(success +1/2dmg, and no tracking)
- School: Divination
- Damage Type: Psychic
Your damage die is a 3d8 + an additional d8 per each spell slot level above 2nd. The cast time is one action, the range is 60 feet, the duration is one hour and it is a concentration spell. The components are just somatic which great means you can do it well a silenced or what have you. The saving throw is a wisdom based one and on a success they take half damage and there is no tracking. The school is divination and the damage type is psychic which isn’t too surprising.
The effect at a glance: On a failed save, you know the targets location until the spell ends. While effected the target cannot be hidden from you which is pretty cool. In any case let’s take a quick look at its full description here and better flesh out exactly how the spell operates.
As per this mind spike 5e spell you can reach into a mind of one creature that you are able to see within a particular range. Even the target should make a wisdom saving throw, it simply by taking 3d8 psychic damage on a particular failed save, or of course half as much damage on a successful one too.
Al though on a failed save, you can also be always known about the target’s location unless until the spell could end, but of course the only while some two of you’re on the similar plane of existence. During you’ve this knowledge, even the target can not become hidden from you, even though if it is invisible and it could gain none of the benefits from that particular condition against you.

At Higher Levels: However at higher levels whenever you cast this spell by using the spell slot of 3rd level or else higher, even though the damage would be increased by 1d8 for each and every slot level above 2nd.
Very good stuff…so once again this does lend itself to very particular playstyle and that is one of a ruthless hunter. One that will not let their prey escape at any cost which is a pretty cool way to look at it. Honestly i really do like it. Now let’s take a look at some alternative uses here.
So one of the cooler ones is using this to make sure plans can go off without a hitch. Hit a person with this early on in the day, do it stealthily cuz you don’t have to make any noise for it right so do it while you’re hidden and then kind of just keep track of them throughout the day make sure they’re in the right place at the right time and then BAM execute that plan.
Outside of that you could also use this for tracking a fool through a maze or labyrinth or some form of complicated area right! like a force to should be a good example or just a very large space. Also read our mind spike wow spell.
Outside of that this is a great spell to use if someone tries to disappear or run away from you. Not just for the a far mentioned reasons but also because you know the ability to both do damage and completely nullify the hiding action and invisibility is super great. It’s kind of like two spells and one and a lot of sense so i think it’s something definitely worth considering putting into your arsenal.
That being said! If you have any ideas, questions, comments, thoughts, concerns regrading d&d 5e mind spike please put them down beneath in the comment section i really do appreciate it. That being said! i hope you’ll have a wonderful day and as always happy casting everyone. You can also check is false life any good?
