Jim’s Glowing Coin 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spell book and thank you so much for checking out the 41st episode of our second level spell series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at an another amazing spell from the team over acquisitions incorporated(AI). This spell is dnd 5e jim’s glowing coin named after jim dark magic himself.

I highly recommend you check out AI in the C team at some point in the future they are absolutely hilarious and their book is certainly worth of the read as well. This spell is usable exclusively by the wizard class and it is found in the acquisitions incorporated module. Now with that out of the way let’s take a quick look at its mechanics so we can better understand the way the spell operates.

Mechanics

The effect at a glance is as followed: Throw a coin to a point within a range. The coin glows as though under the effect of the light spell. Creatures of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of the coin, are distracted for the duration on a failed save. The creatures effected have disadvantage on perception checks and initiative rolls.

  • Level: 2nd
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 60 ft
  • Components: V, S, M*
  • Duration: 1 Minute
  • School: Enchantment
  • Attack/Save: WIS Save

Your cast time is one action, the range is 60ft, the duration is one minute and this is not a concentration spell. The save is a wisdom and the components are verbal, material and somatic holy trinity. If you’re curious about that material component it is a coin that will technically to a gold, the AI uses royalty components as kind of casting sacrifices. So what that means is this spell essentially consumes two gold.

The school is unsurprisingly enchantment. Now let’s take a look at the full description here to better understand the exact wording of this spell.

Description

Of the many tactics are employed by the master magician and also renowned adventurer Jim Darkmagic, probably the old glowing coin trick is a time-honored classic. Whenever you cast the spell, you do hurl the coin which is the spell’s material component to any spot with a specific range.

The coin is always light up as if under an effect of the light spell. Each and every creature of your choice which you could see within 30 feet from the coin should be succeeded on a wisdom saving throw or else be distracted for a duration. While it distracted, a creature has disadvantage on the wisdom (Perception) checks and initiative rolls.

If you are curious about the way the light spell operates it is essentially 20 feet of bright light followed by another 20 feet of dim light so a total of 40 feet, they can be blocked but whatever..no problem it essentially gives off light. So needless to say it’s a pretty cool spell lots going on with it. Let’s take a quick look at some alternative uses here so we can figure out exactly to use this.

Alternative Uses

So, i think the best use for it is during intense moments or possibly even heists. If you’re stealing something you don’t want people noticing and if they do notice you want to clean getaway this is a great way to do that just give it the fact that it essentially guarantees your initiative is higher.

Outside of that using this as a cool party trick would also be kinda awesome or even using it with more chaotic humor for example pantsing everyone in the local vicinity at a duke or archbishop’s wedding or birthday something like that would be kind of hilarious.

In addition i kind of touched on this earlier but ensuring a clean getaway. Not only are they gonna have problems noticing you but once again that higher initiative check it could really help out especially if you use your initial action to dash. I think it’s pretty cool, i think it’s very neat.

Conclusion

That being said, if you have any alternative ideas, uses, concept, questions, comments, concerns, please put it down beneath in the comment section also let me know whether or not you’d allow this in your game. I would probably allow it in mine but i don’t know i’m curious to see what you guys have to say. That being said, i hope you all have a wonderful day and as always happy casting everyone.
