Hello spellcasters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking in to the 45th episode of our 1st level spell series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at dnd 5e heroism spell usable only by the bard and paladin meaning its found in their spell lists there are the ways to get access to it but its all those a list. It is found in the players handbook. This one is super cool, i really like what it does, not just thematically but mechanically as well. This is probably one of the best support spells in the game. In any case lets break down why that is here in the mechanics section.
- Casting Time: 1 Action
- Range: Touch
- Duration: 1 Minute (Concentration)
- Components: Somatic and Verbal
- School: Enchantment
Its cast time is standard one action, the range is touch, The duration for this one minute and it is a concentration spell so you can only focus on one constitution spell at a time if you get heroism to make constitution stuff like that. At higher levels you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 1st. Its pretty cool. The components are somatic and verbal and the school is enchantment which is all very nice stuff.
The effect at a glance is as followed: A willing creature you touch cannot be frightened and gains temporary hit points and they are equal to spellcasting modifier at the start of each of its turns.
I really do like the way this is start-up and its skills super when it comes to levels, its super effective at each level and it always gonna retain its usefulness. In any case lets take a look at the full description so we get the exact wording.
Basically in dnd 5e heroism spell a willing creature which you do touch has been imbued with the bravery. Until the spell would end, the creature is immune for being frightened and also will gain temporary hit points which are equal to your spellcasting ability modifier at each of its starting turn.
But whenever the spell ends then the target would lose any of its remaining temporary hit points from this heroism 5e spell.

At Higher Levels Of D&D 5E Heroism
Whenever you do cast this spell by using the spell slot of 2nd level or more than the 2nd level and then you can easily target an additional creature for each of the slot which is above the 1st level.
Okay something i really wanna clarify here real quick. Those temporary hit points by the rules apply to temporary hit points do not stack. So assume you have spellcsating modifier 3 cause a early level spell. On the in free temporary hit points when they take 3 damage those go very naturally and anything additional goes through to the direct hit points.
But if they are unattack because not in their 6 the next turn. You just need to solve the three it will be the larger of the two should predomining the three. That being said let’s take a look at some alternative uses here.
So the best one i could think off kinda plays on the wording a little bit here. So it doesn’t say at any point that the creature has to remain visible during this spell duration. So what that means is your party stucking editorial combat and you are force to fire one at a time or one of your party members has force to fire on their own cast this on them. They will put in a vastly superior position. So not only it does specify you have to maintain like sight with him there’s no range limitation on this at all, the only limitation really is the mini on duration.
Quite frankly most fights lasts in 10 rounds to begin with. So i think you’re well in the greenedge i think that would be an incredible use for this. I really just genuinely like it, the temporary hit points are super nice its essentially treated as damage reduction and a heavy armor master if you remember and get you psuedo down introduction, it doesn’t apply to magical damage right! So this is in my opinion a vast superior way to go.
