Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 43rd episode of our first level spell series. Today we’re going to be looking at dnd 5e healing word spell. This is one of the best first level spells in the game and almost everyone with access to it picks it immediately.
It is usable by the bard, cleric and the druid. It is found in the players handbook. Also if you take magic initiate i would highly recommend this. In any case now let’s take a look at the mechanics here and kind of breakdown how it works.
- Casting Time: 1 Bonus action
- Range: 60ft
- Duration: Instantaneous
- Components: Verbal
- School: Evocation
The cast time is a very nice bonus action, the range is an impressive 60 feet, the duration is instantaneous. The effect at a glance is as followed: Heal a living creature 1d4+ your spellcasting modifier. At higher levels; healing increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 1st.
Your components are just verbal meaning you just have to be able to speak and your school is evocation. Which is pretty cool. That being said, let’s take a look at the full description so you know exactly what we’re talking about.
Healing Word 5E: A creature depends upon your choice which you can able to see within a range would be regain the hit points which are equal to 1d4+your spell casting ability modifier. Actually, this spell has no effect on an undead or constructs.
At Higher Levels:
Whenever you cast this healing word dnd 5e spell by using the spell slot of more than or equal to the 2nd level and the healing increases by 1d4 for each slot above the 1st level.
Super cool stuff! i really like this one. The fact that it just units up uses a bonus action and has an incredible range at least relative to other healing spells. it make this so good especially at first level man i tell you it’s such a strong choice for a magic initiate as well because but the three classes bard, cleric and druid most characters either have an incredibly high charisma or an incredibly high wisdom. So that just works so so good for both of them. In any case let’s take a look at some alternative uses here.
So, one that i really like is the ability to essentially bring them back a friendly party member into the fray. Getting them above the zero hit points and getting them right back into combat..super great. You can also use it on the creature or should you be torturing them to firm formation. This is a great way to stop it from dying and it’s a great way to gain trust from individuals as well. Even those of demonic or what would otherwise be enemies. It’s a great way to kind of build that trust.

5e Healing Word VS Cure Wounds 5E
Would you think which is better for your bard? Also the cure wounds can heal more but they require touch and also healing word can heal less but its has range. You can also check raise dead 5e spell Actually, healing word is the best whenever you need it for while combat.
Being a college of lore bard you should be careful all about your positioning that means many touch spells might be crucial for you to be pull them off. You must be keep yourself safe and out of reach, also the bards are known to be turn the tides of the battle.
In any case, that’s about all the ones i could think of. If you would think of any cool ones or you have any questions or comments, concerns or build ideas please bring it down to the comment section beneath i really enjoy talking with you guys. That being said! i hope you all have a wonderful day and as always happy casting.
