Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 32nd episode of our second level spell series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at another one of the explorer’s guide to wildemount exclusives that’s right we’re looking at denim and see yet again so this spell is dnd 5e fortune’s favor.
It is usable by both in the chronurgy wizard as well as the graviturgy wizard. It might be worth pointing out as well there have been a lot discussions on the d&d community lately regarding whether or not these spells apply to regular wizards. Personally ask your DM if you really want to take it, i don’t see anything inherently wrong with this spell so i’d be okay with it but i ask them just to make sure. Now let’s move on to the mechanics here.
The effect at a glance is as followed: Targeted creature can dismiss this spell to roll an additional d20 for an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Alternatively this spell can also make a creature reroll an attack roll against the target.

- Duration: 1 Hour

The cast time is one minute, the range is 60 feet, the duration is one hour and at higher levels you can target one additional creature for each slot level above second. The school is also a divination which makes a lot of sense.
The components are verbal, material and somatic. Now that material component is actually a point of controversy or at least a point of validity to the spell perhaps. So the material component is a white pearl worth at least a hundred GP which the spell consumes. Needless to say if you’re an early level adventurer a 100 gp is gonna be a lot to you.
However in a later levels it’s not gonna be that big of a deal. So that’s why there’s a lot of back and forth about whether or not this spells a valid choice. I think that’s early levels it’s a bit trickier to sell it at higher levels it’s definitely worth it. Now let’s take a look at the full description to better understand the exact wording behind this spell.
You do impart latent luck to yourself or else a willing creature that you can see within a range. Whenever the selected creature makes an attack roll, an ability check, or even a saving throw before the end of this spell, it can dismiss this spell on itself in order to roll an additional d20 and then select which of the d20s to use.
Alternatively, whenever an attack roll that has been made against the selected creature, then it can dismiss this spell on itself to roll a d20 and choose which of the d20s to use, either the one it rolled or the one the attacker rolled. Suppose, if an original d20 roll has advantage or disadvantage, then the creature rolls the additional d20 after advantage or disadvantage has already been applied to an original roll.
At Higher Levels: Whenever you cast this spell by using the spell slot of level 3rd or higher, you can easily target an additional creature for each slot level above the 2nd.
Very cool, very nice, i really like the way this works it’s a very similar to the luck spell in more ways than not. Only provides you with essentially a single charge and it’s not quite as good but i do like it. In any case it’s gonna be worth pointing out that through virtue of you imparting latent luck on a target creature.
I could make an argument for that creature being a little bit more lucky throughout the day at least as a DM i would think that’d be a great way to flavor it. I mean to be fair like with a duration of an hour this is a pretty good prep spell in a lot of ways. That being said, lets take a look at some alternative uses now.
So one of the main alternative uses i could think for this would be balanced encounters or helping to balance encounters. Giving a person a potential advantage as well as the ability to impose a potential disadvantage onto a target creature are very good things. Ultimately it could be the matter life or death.
Outside of that, i think this is a great way of kind of hedging your bets in terms of competitions or other matters of skill. Also if you’re character is rather and you want everything they go off without a hitch this is once again a great way to hedge those bets in a more tense scenario.
