You do blast the mind of any creature which you could see within a range, by attempting to shatter its intellect and even the personality. Of course the target shall take 4d6 psychic damage and also it should make an intelligence saving throw.

However on a failed save, the creature is intelligence and the charisma scores may become 1. The creature can not cast the spells, the activate magic items, understand language or even communicate in any intelligible way. That being said, the creature can, however, Identify its Friends, follow them, and even protect them too.

So at an end of every 30 days, the creature could repeat its saving throw against this spell. Suppose, if it succeeds on its saving throw, the spell will end. Probably the spell can also be ended by Greater Restoration, heal or wish.
