Erupting Earth 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 19th episode of our third level spell series. Today we have a truly incredibly cool spell in store for us today we are looking at dnd 5e erupting earth this spell is usable by the druid, sorcerer and the wizard and it is found in the elemental evil players companion. Make sure to read tidal wave 5e too. Now without further ado let’s take a quick look at its mechanics here.

  • Level: 3rd
  • Damage: 3d12(+1d12 per slot level above 3rd)
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 120 ft (20 ft Cube)
  • Components: V, S, M * (a piece of obsidian)
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • School: Transmutation
  • Attack/Save: DEX Save
  • Damage/Effect: Bludgeoning
  • Classes: Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard

Starting with its damage you have access 3d12 plus an additional d12 per slot level above 3rd. The effect at a glance is as followed: Cause an eruption of earth and stone, becoming difficult terrain. That is of course in addition to the damage.

your cast time is one action, the range is a very impressive 120 feet and the actual area of effect is a 20-foot cube which certainly nothing to stop at…there’s actually very nice. Very nice area of effect. The duration is instantaneous. Also read fireball spell 5e.

The components are the holy trinity of somatic, material and verbal. If you’re curious about that material component it is a piece of obsidian which is pretty cool and arguably relatively easy to come by. Under saving throw it is a dexterity based save and on a success they only take one half damage.

The school is transmutation and the damage type is bludgeoning which kind of makes sense. Now lets take a quick look at its full description here and just read about the spell a little bit more. Click on the link to know more about wall of sand 5e.

Being an erupting earth dnd spell you have to select a point that you can see on a ground within a particular range. Basically a fountain of churned earth and also the stone erupts within a 20-foot cube centered on that specific point. Each and every creature within that specific area should make a Dexterity saving throw. A quick reminder to you, If you’re not aware of wind wall 5e spell then make sure to click on the given link.

Also a creature will take 3d12 bludgeoning damage on a specific failed save, or else half as much damage on a successful one. In an addition, the ground in that specific area would become difficult terrain unless until it cleared away. Of course each 5-foot-square portion of an area requires at least 1 minute (60 seconds) for clearing by hand. Also read about: locate creature spell 5e

At Higher Levels

Whenever you make to cast this specific spell by using the spell slot of 3rd level or higher and the damage also increase by 1d12 for each of the slot level above 2nd.

Very interesting stuff, a couple things that might be worth going over. You can only cast this on the ground so no casting it from ceiling which i think will be pretty cool but whatever.

Outside of that this difficult terrain lasts in perpetuity until it’s cleared. Which is very cool! especially considering the duration is instantaneous it’s very nice that also has a long lasting effect afterwards. Also see the wall of water dnd spell. Now let’s take a quick look at some alternative uses here.

Alternative Uses

So i really did struggle with this a little bit. As so far as to say this spell doesn’t really have a ton of utility to it. It’s pretty clearly designated to damage and cause difficult terrain that’s really about it. That being said, a great use for it regardless is using it to take down a large swath of enemies from a very far distance away.

So that’s certainly something worth considering, outside of that this could be a great way of making sure certain plans you go off without a hitch. A really taking advantage of that difficult terrain portion of for example. That being said, that’s really all i could come up with. Please proceed with the bones of the earth spell.

So, if you have any ideas, alternative uses, thoughts, questions, comments or concerns please feel free to put them down beneath in the comment section. That being said, i hope you all have a great day and as always happy spell casting.
