Enlarge/Reduce 5E Spell

Hello spellcasters of all shapes and sizes! welcome to the 25th episode in our 2nd level spell series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at d&d 5e enlarge/reduce this is such a cool one i honestly love this play, so great thematically works great in combat. I just think it’s a hilarious spell.

I know these usable by the sorcerer, wizard and artificer which is amazing and it’s found in the good old players handbook. If you would like to check out our other dnd 5e spells then please have a look at the page. Now with that hyped intro out of the way let’s take a look at its mechanics.

Enlarge/reduce 5e spell

  • Level: 2nd
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 30 ft
  • Components: V, S, M *
  • Duration: 1 Minute (Concentration)
  • School: Transmutation
  • Attack/Save: CON Save
  • Damage/Effect: Buff

So there are seperate sets of mechanics one for the d&d 5e enlarge spell section and one for the reduced section.

So when you enlarge a creature the size doubles, the weight is multiplied by 8. This size is considered to be plus one. So if it’s a medium creature becomes a large creature etc.

They get advantage on strength saves and checks so that includes like your athletic check for example would be in there. So there are a lot more benefits than just the weight and size. You’ll to gain a +d for two weapon damage so long as you’re carrying a weapon while the spell is cast on you.

If you are reduced the reverse effect supplies. So your size is divided by two, your weight is divided by eight, your size category is minus one. You have disadvantage of strength saves and checks and your weapon damage is subtracted by 1D4 as well. So it’s kind of two sides of the same coin which makes logical sense.

In enlarge 5e/reduce you make to cause a creature or an object that you can see within a specific range to grow larger or smaller for the specific duration. You need to chose either a creature or else an object which is neither worn nor carried. But if that target was unwilling, then it can able to make a constitution saving throw. On a success, this enlarge/reduce 5e spell doesn’t have any effect.

If the target is a creature, and everything that it is wearing and even carrying the changes the size with it. Any of the item dropped by an affected creature would be return to the normal size at once.

D&D 5E Enlarge:

As per this 5e enlarge the target’s size would be doubled in all of its dimensions, and its weight is multiplied by 8. Normally, this growth will increase its size by a category-from medium size to large size in an available space. But until the end of this enlarge spell 5e, the target also has some advantage on the strength checks and also strength saving throws.

Also the target weapons grow to get matched with its new size. While these weapons were enlarged and the target attacks by them deal 1d4 extra damage.

Reduce 5E:

As per this the target size has been halved in all of its dimensions, and of course its weight is reduced to one-eighth of normal. Basically, this reduction would be decrease its size by one category-normally from medium to small, for an instance. Until the end of this spell, the target would also has some disadvantage on the strength checks and also strength saving throws.

The target’s weapons do also shrink to match its new size. While these weapons normally are reduced, the target attack’s by them deal 1d4 less damage (this can’t reduce the damage below 1).

Alternative Uses

I think this is absolutely fantastic and amazing when it comes to balancing out encounters. Now an extra one die for damage might not seem like a lot but when you put it on someone with many attacks then it really adds up in a real hurry. Outside of that it’s a great way of drawing a grow or minimizing egg or depending on your position.

Something worth noting is, it doesn’t affect the damage done by spells or done by other magical effects, so very important to know that.

Outside of that this is very useful when it comes to arena or gladiatorial, colosseum type settings or anytime there to confined space with an opponent as well and there’s this cool little trick you can do you reduce yourself and you fly around using mage hand, some DMS allow it some DMS don’t. But as per the rule of cool i certainly allow i think it’s hilarious.
