It is a spell which is available from the Xanathar’s Guide To Everything. As per this spell the tendril of inky darkness shall reach out from you, simply by touching a particular creature that you are able to see within a range to drain the life from it. Of course the target should make a dexterity saving throw.

However on a successful save, the target shall take 2d8 necrotic damage, and even the spell ends. Of course on a failed save also, the target shall take 4d8 necrotic damage, until the end of this spell, you can simply use your action on each of your turns for automatically deal 4d8 necrotic damage to the target.

The spell will be end if you use your action to do anything else, if a target is ever outside the spell’s range, or else if the target has total cover from you. Of course whenever the spell deal the damage to the target, you can easily regain the hit points which is equal to half the amount of necrotic damage the target takes.

At Higher Levels

Whenever you cast this spell by using the spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage shall be increased by 1d8 for each slot above the 5th level.
