Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 18th episode of our third level spell series. Let me tell you we have a very interesting spell in store for us today. I gotta say i strongly regret overlooking the spell so many times whenever i do character creation, needless to say on my next character i’m certainly gonna pick it.
Today we’re looking at enemies abound. This spell is usable by the bard, sorcerer, warlock and a wizard. It is found in the Xanathar’s Guide To Everything book which has a ton of super cool spells. Most of our favorites are actually found in that. That being said let’s take a quick look at its mechanics from down below and break it down a little bit further.
- Effect: On a failed save, the target can no longer be distinguish friend from foe; viewing all as enemies. The target can use all means to attack the creatures within range, including reactions. Anytime, the target takes damage, they remake the save.
- Level: 3
- Casting time: 1 Action
- Damage: Contro
- Range: 120 feet
- Components: V, S (Verbal, Somatic)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
- Saving throw: Intelligence
- School: Enchantment
- Classes: bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
The cast time is one action and the range is a very impressive 120 feet my goodness that is great stuff. The duration is one minute and it is a concentration spell, the saving throw is intelligence, the components are verbal and somatic and the school is enchantment which makes sense. I love this spell, think it’s so cool now let’s take a quick moment here and check out its full description.
As per this dnd enemies abound 5e spell you can reach into a mind of a creature that you are able to see within a range and also force it for making an Intelligence saving throw. A creature will automatically be succeeded when if it is immune for being frightened.
On a particular failed save, the target would lose the ability to distinguish friend from the foe, regarding to all the creatures that it able to see as the enemies until the end of this spell. Of course each and every time the target will take a specific damage, and it can repeat the saving throw, by ending an effect on itself on a particular success.

However when an affected creature chooses a different creature as a target, so that it must be select a target in a random way from among those creatures that it can see within a range of an attack, spell, or some other ability its using.
Suppose, if an enemy would provoke an opportunity attack from an affected creature and also the creature must make that attack if it is capable to. You can find this enemies abound dnd spell from Xanathar’s Guide To Everything at 155th page.
My Opinion On This Description
It has very interesting stuff and i love this spell for so many ways. If you ask me that Is Enemies Abound good? then i would say it is very good. It’s kind of reminiscent of the level to spell crown of madness. However better in virtually every regard this works great with action economy. Don’t really need to constantly keep feeding the spell resources to keep it active.
Depending on who go with the intelligence save is also to your advantage a lot of times a lot of those heavy hitters are gonna have a very low intelligence score a lot of beasts as well have incredibly low intelligence. So this would be a great way to use it there. Something else worth noting is this also relates to the spells.
Oh my god! i love that i love the ability of you tricking the high-level wizard or someone with some limited charge magical item into burning up their resources on their own man i think that is so unbelievably cool. Let me tell you that being said, let’s take a quick moment here and check out some alternative uses. Also read fast friends dnd 5e.
So, i think arguably the best person to use us on is anyone of influence for example kings, queens, mob bosses, high wizards people of that nature. This is very useful and i think this is really synergizes are really well with the divination wizards lucky dice as it were. You can also read our does crown of madness work on undead?
I forget the exact feature name right now but that’s where they roll the dice at the beginning of everyday and they can actually use those rolls as they see fit. So a great way into making sure that wizard of bombs that intelligence save and potentially uses a high-level fireball on their perceived enemies. Also read dnd hunger of hadar.
Another thing i would like to point out really quick here is that there’s nothing in the spell that says id the creature feels like it is an imminent peril the spell fails. So, you could potentially cause borderline suicide emissions really like you could trick a knight into attacking the king knowing full well that he will get beheaded at the end of it.
So, it’s a really interesting spell. I really do love it. In terms of other alternative uses you can use it to signal a plan in action for example the second you see the king go rogue i want you to bum rush the entire treasury. Would you also like to read our hypnotic pattern 5e.
Something like that and this also works great in terms of balance and encounters you gain one less thing to worry about you could really use the arrange to your advantage and cast this from very far away and just watch is the alpha wolf destroys its pack for no other reason other than i thought they were enemies. Very cool stuff, i really do love this spell i think it’s worded really nicely i think it’s very open-ended and ultimately i think would be super fun to roleplay.
That being said, if you have any alternative uses, ideas, thoughts, questions, comments or concerns about how to use this spell please let me know down beneath in the comment section. That being said, i hope you all have a great day and as always happy casting everyone. If you’d like to check our other dnd 5e background then check this page.
