Velociraptor DnD 5E Monster

Hello paleontologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 75th episode of our beast series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at dnd velociraptor 5e monster. Arguably one of the most well known dinosaurs and pretty cool overall even in terms of stats.

So the velociraptor has found in the volo’s guide to monsters and it is considered to be a CR one quarter (1/4) to be honest i kind of feel like they did the velociraptor a slight disservice here but whatever let me know what you guys think down down beneath. Let’s take a quick moment though and check out its stats.

So the velociraptor is considered to be a tiny beast which i don’t entirely agree with but whatever and it is unaligned. AC of 13, 10 Hit points calculated by rolling 3d4 and adding three. Also a speed of 30 feet which i feel like is half or low but whatever.

  • Type: Tiny Beast, Unaligned; AC:13; HP: 10(3d4+3); Speed: 30ft.

As a strength of minus two as well, +2 to dexterity though which is nice and plus one to wisdom which is also nice and a little bit of con in there as well so. As far as other beasts go i want to say it’s right in there with the average of the cr one quarters.

  • STR: 6(-2)
  • DEX: 14(+2)
  • CON: 13(+1)
  • INT: 4(-3)
  • WIS: 12(+1)
  • CHA: 6(-2)

Under skills i see a plus three to perception for a passive perception of 13 which certainly isn’t bad. The saving grace however for the velociraptors that has packed tactics. This is a really great and in the action section you’ll see why a large group of these can just demolish a lot of adventurers.

Skills: Perception +3; Senses: Passive Perception 13.

Pack Tactics

So pack tactics gives an advantage on attack rolls against a creature. If at least 10 feet of the velociraptor’s allies is within five feet of the creature and of course the ally isn’t incapacitated.

Which is pretty pretty cool. Now let’s take a quick look at its actions here.

  • Multiattack. The velociraptor makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage.
  • Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) slashing damage.

This feathered dinosaur is about the size of a large turkey. It is an aggressive predator and often hunts in packs to bring down larger prey.

So the velociraptor has a multi attack heck yeah…it can take two attacks such as 1bite and 1 claw. The bite attack is a melee weapon attack, plus four to hit, reach of five feet, one creature and deals a five piercing damage on a hit calculated by rolling 1d6 and adding two.

The claw attack is a melee weapon attack as well plus four to hit, reach of five feet. Notice it is one target so it’s pretty cool there’s that distinction and heals four damage on a hit calculated by rolling 1d4 and adding two.

So a whole group of these with multi attack and pack tactics, i mean it’s only a matter of time before you wear down a lot of people. I would like to see their speed increase to at least a little bit and maybe some more hit points but outside of that, you know it is what it is.

That being said, let me know what you think of the velociraptor down beneath in the comment section. Also tell me how you’d use it in your games and mention any thoughts, questions, comments or concerns. That being said, i hope you all have a great day and as always happy researching.
