Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for clicked on to the 74th episode of our beasts series. Today we are taking a look at the Swarm of ravens dnd 5e monster i’m kinda bummed out they didn’t call it an unkindness cuz that’s typically what a flock of ravens is called. It’s kind of a missed opportunity. But whatever the swarm is considered to be a cr one quarter creature cr:1/4(50xp) and it is found in the basic rules set. Now without further ado let’s take a quick look at its mechanics here and kind of break it down a little bit.
There’s a lot going on with the swarm of ravens here. It is considered to be a medium swam of tiny beasts that is unaligned. AC of 12 and 24 hit points calculated by rolling 7d8 and subtracting 7 also its walk speed of 10 feet and the fly speed of 50 feet.
- Type: Medium swarm of tiny beasts, unaligned
- AC: 12
- HP: 24(7D8-7)
- Speed: 10ft, fly 50ft
Taking a look at his actual stats, you’ll notice quite dexterous clocking in at a +2 to dexterity and a +1 on wisdom as well which is actually really good.
- STR: 6(-2)
- DEX: 14(+2)
- CON: 8(-1)
- INT: 3(-4)
- WIS: 12(+1)
- CHA: 6(-2)
Now taking a look at its damage resistances….it is much like the other swarms in the way that is bludgeoning, piercing and slashing. And of course much like the other swarms you have the condition immunities as well..Charmed, frightened, grappled, paralyzed, petrified, prone, restrained and stunned. It also has +5 to perception which is great, making for a passive perception of 15 which is obnoxiously high for the beasts.
Swarm: It also has other trait and that is the swarm trait. These swarm of ravens is capable to occupy an another creature’s space and vice versa, and also this swarm can move via any of its opening large enough for a small raven. Of course the swarm can not even regain Hit points or else gain the Temporary Hit Points. So kind like the other ones.
Beaks: Now let’s quickly check out its actions here….so the swarm of ravens can perform the beaks action. This is considered to be a melee weapon attack: +4 to hit, reach 5ft. which is interesting because the other swarms already 0 foot reach so this could actually strike out around it as well which is pretty cool. It can target one target in a swarm’s space. On a Hit it deals 7 piercing damage calculated by rolling 2d6, or 3 piercing damage calculated by rolling 1d6 if this swarm has the half of its Hit points or else fewer.
- Melee weapon attack: +4 to hit
- Reach 5ft
- One target in the swarm’s space
- Hit: 7(2d6) piercing damage, or 3(1d6) piercing damage if the swarm has half of its hit points or fewer.
Very cool stuff! i absolutely love the fact that it can strike out against also the impressive fly speed on this, is pretty cool as well. I’d probably have this or even a cluster of swarms come like hunt a party down i think that’d be a pretty cool thing.
