If an object has been touched is either a metal armor or a metal Shield being worn or else carried, then its takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the AC that it offers. The armor has been reduced to an AC of 10 or a Shield which drops to a +0 bonus has been destroyed. If an object touched is a held metal weapon, then it rusts as described in the Rust Metal trait.
