Mule DnD 5E Monster

Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for clicked on 42nd episode of our beast series. Today we’re looking at the humble mule monster dnd 5e. Despite how simple this beast is there’s a little bit of debate in and around it. So i’ll give you my interpretation of my ruling a little bit later on here.

But the mule is found in the basic rule set that is so far as to say it’s found in a lot of those starter books yet. It is considered to be cr1/8 and provides 25 experience points on a kill. In any case let’s quickly check out its mechanics here.

Mechanics

Stats

So the mule is considered to be a medium beast that is unaligned. So there are about the same size as your just average joke. It’s AC is considered to be 10, It has 11 hit points calculated by rolling 2d8 with a +2 modifier and it has a speed of 40 feet which is pretty good.

Taking a look at its stats here. You’ll notice he’s a very strong and a little bit of heft to him and that’s about it. Not particularly smart but you know he’s kind of just a basic kind of labor-related animal.

  • DEX: 10(+0)
  • CON: 13(+1)
  • INT: 2(-4)
  • WIS: 10(+0)
  • CHA: 5(-3)

Under sense it only has a passive perception of 10 which is still okay. It also has the beast of burden trait and this is kind of the more debated trait.

Traits

Beast of Burden: In dungeons and dragons role playing game this mule has been considered to be the large animal for the purpose of determining its carrying Capacity.

So the debate is whether or not the mule can be used as a mount for medium creatures. Cause mountain you’re really only allowed to mount one size above you or one size plus above you should say so huge stuff like that.

Sure-Footed: This mule monster has an advantage on the strength and also the dexterity saving throws made against the Effects which would be knock it prone. Which is pretty good stuff. Now let’s quickly take a look at his actions here.

Actions

Hooves: He can do a hooves attack. By using this hooves action this monster ca make a Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) bludgeoning damage.

Very cool stuff! i really like the mule. I probably wouldn’t put them in combat two too much. Mechanically there’s just not really a lot to him that i’d be interested in using as a DM. But to have them around the party provide them a cheap way of moving caravans and things of that nature.

I think that would be fine and having them as background animals things to use speak with animals on or things of that nature would probably be my best use for them.
