Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for clicked on our 18th episode of our beast series. Today we have a very interesting one in store for us. We’re talking about the Jackal DnD Monster 5E. If you don’t know what a jackal is? it’s kind of like a small dog with pointy ears and a big bushy tail. Kind of like i guess unkept foxes or messy foxes i guess.
This jackal is found in the dungeon master’s guide and couple other source books and that is considered to be a cr0 creature which is to say it’s not really meant to be a challenge and it provides 10 experience points should you kill it. Now let’s take a quick look at its stats here to kind of talk about more a more but further.
So the jackal considered to be a small beast that is unaligned..he’s a small boy. He has 12 AC, three hitpoints calculated by rolling 1d6 and a speed of 40 feet which is actually pretty good.
- Type: Small Beast, Unaligned
- AC: 12
- HP: 3(1D6)
- Speed: 40ft
Taking a look at its stats there, you’ll notice he’s not very intelligent. He’s okay in everything else at least relative to everything else we’ve been covering. He’s got a little bit of dexterity a little bit of wisdom and how much else.
- STR: 8(-1)
- DEX: 15(+2)
- CON: 11(+0)
- INT: 3(-4)
- WIS: 12(+1)
- CHA: 6(-2)
You know in skills he has a +3 to perception though which lends itself to a passive perception of 13 in his senses. The jackal does have a couple other traits though let’s check them out.
He has keen hearing and smell which loans him advantage on perception checks that rely on hearing or smell. Which is a great thing to have let me tell you. He also has pack tactics which let him attack with advantage when one of his allies is within of five feet of the target. Very cool stuff there.
Keen Hearing and Smell: This jackal monster has an advantage in wisdom (Perception) checks which is rely on hearing or smell.
Pack Tactics: Basically, this monster (jackal) has some advantages on an attack roll which is against to the creature if at least one of the jackal’s allies is within 5ft., of the creature and also the ally is not incapacitated.

In terms of actions he can take a bite attack. At his +2 to hit, has a range of 5 feet and can only target one target. It deals 3 piercing damage calculated by rolling 1d6.
Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) piercing damage.
I like the jackal in terms of how i would use them i’d probably use them as hunting dogs when you’re in the desert or the sahara something like that. So for example a mercenary group would use them to track the party down.
I think that’d be a pretty fair way to use them. I think that’s really the best use for them as well and take advantage of their great movement, take advantage of their pack tactics and take advantage of their keen hearing and smelling. I kind of think that’s the best of all of it.
