Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you for clicked on the 16th episode of our beast series we got a treat in store for us. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at the dnd 5e hawk monster. Now this is one of the most popular familiar choices, maybe outside of the owl which will of course be covering in a later article. But the hawk is found in the dungeon master’s guide and a ton of other source books including the phb and that is it considered to be cr0 creature that is to say it’s not really a challenge and it provides 10 experience points when defeated. Now let’s take a quick look at its stats here, so you can figure out exactly what we’re talking about.
So the hawk is for some strange reason considered to be a tiny beast, unaligned. I mean at least make it small, i don’t know there are like kind of smaller than the eagles but almost seems ridiculous and whatever wizards is weird when it comes to animals. It has an AC 13 and one hit point and it calculated by rolling a d4 and subtracting one. So ridiculous. Its speed is 10 feet but again even as a fly speed of 60 feet which is actually really impressive.
- Type: Tiny Beast, Unaligned
- AC: 13
- HP: 1(1D4-1)
- Speed: 10ft, fly 60ft
Taking a look at its stats. Here you’ll notice that he is a very dexterous but outside of that he’s not too bright. He’s got a little bit of wisdom and a little bit of charisma at least relative to a lot of other creatures but he’s not.
- STR: 5(-3)
- DEX: 16(+3)
- CON: 8(-1)
- INT: 2(-4)
- WIS: 14(+2)
- CHA: 6(-2)
Nothing to brag about however you look at its skills man perception +4 that’s not bad. The passive perception of 14 also not bad which is given in senses. And it has keensight as well so advantage on perception checks that rely on sight. It sounds pretty good to me. Actually not quite as good as the owl as i mentioned earlier but kind of depends on your play-style i guess.
Keen Sight: As per this keen sight trait this hawk monster has an advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
That being said let’s take a quick look at its actions here. Much like the eagle he can do a talon attack. I considered to be a melee weapon attack +5 to here which is actually really great. Range of 5 feet, one target it deals one slashing damage on a hit. Which isn’t super impressive but i still feel like this is the best used as once again i’m very similar to the eagle.
Kind of a spy or an indicator of things to come perhaps like drop the hint that there’s a hawk circling the party and then one minute it’s there and the next it’s not. You know like use it to build ominous tension perhaps. That’s the best i can really come up with.
Talons: By using this talons action this dnd 5e monster can make a Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 slashing damage.
Attributes Of Hawk Monster DnD 5E
