Hello zoologists! welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 82nd episode our beasts series. I feel mixed emotions currently if i’m being honest with all of you. I love it when there’s new content added to the dnd 5e universe.
However it stresses me out to no end when i gotta go back and do it because it makes my consistency look all weird right! so like right now in the beasts playlist there’s going to be this nice beautiful progression of cr from zero all the way up to cr one half and then wham here’s another cr zero for you guys.
Any ways we’re talking about dnd 5e fox monster which actually it has some cool kind of flavor text attached to it, i’ll get into that at the end but we’ll do everything in order first and it is found in Icewind dale: rime of the frostmaiden which from what i understand is a really good adventure i’ve ever had friends who have started playing it, i don’t think anyone’s finished it yet, i’ll check at a future date but it seems really good so far.
In any case it’s cr zero (cr:0(10xp)) regrettably whatever why can’t they make it cr1 i don’t know, i’m being a nuisance anyways let’s move on to its stats here.
So it is considered to be a tiny beast that is unaligned. AC of 13, two hit points calculated by rolling 1d4 and a walk speed of 30 ft and a burrow speed of 5ft.
- Type: Tiny Beast, Unaligned
- AC: 13
- HP: 2(1D4)
- Speed: 30ft, burrow 5ft
Taking a look at his stats, you’ll notice his dexterity is a very impressive however he’s quite weak but neither here nor there it’s just a little fox.
- STR: 2(-4)
- DEX: 16(+3)
- CON: 11(+0)
- INT: 3(-4)
- WIS: 12(+1)
- CHA: 6(-2)
Under skills you’ll see perception +3 and stealth +5. So very stealthy fellow. Under senses you’ll see 60 feet of darkvision and a passive perception of 13. They also have access to keen hearing which loans them advantage on perception checks relying on hearing.
Very good stuff taking a look at these stats, there’s nothing that i would consider game breaking, if anything i think this would make an excellent familiar choice and i would certainly allow that in my games. So dms or even players if you’re reading it might be worth having that conversation and providing it as an option. It’s pretty cool.
Now let’s move on to its actions here. It only has one action and then it’s bite attack.
Bite: There’s a melee weapon attack that is plus 5 to hit, reach of five feet, it can only target one creature and deals a single point of piercing damage.
- Melee weapon attack: +5 to hit
- Reach 5ft
- One creature
- Hit: 1 piercing damage
Now let’s get into that flavor text. So it is described as the following. The white arctic foxes of icewinddale live in burrows and are acclimated to the cold weather. They prowl on the outskirts of the ten towns and nearby forests for food hunting hares or stealing fish. These timid creatures avoid contact with humanoids. But they are sometimes used as mounts by the triggers.
The triggers are kind of these forest spirit things, they remind me of the four spirits from a lot of the haiku miyazaki and studio ghibli movies. Which is really cool, i like them.
That being said! they are considered an elemental and i’m not stating that series for a while now so stay connected with our website. But i did think it was kind of cool that these guys could be mounts. With all that being said though let me know how you would use the fox down beneath in the comments section.
Be sure to mention any thoughts, questions, comments, concerns of your own and if you have any cool stories involving them. That being said! i hope you all have a wonderful day and and as always happy adventuring.
