Flying Snake Monster DnD 5E

Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for clicked on 37th episode of our beast series. Today we have a rather unique animal in store for us. We’re looking at the flying snake which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Still a super cool creature nonetheless though. This is found in the basic rules set that is to say it’s found in basically all the beginner books you get.

It is considered to be cr1/8 and you get 25 experience points on a kill. This is also a very common choice of acceptable familiars to give your party. I think it’s a little bit too good to be just a regular familiar so usually offered up as a quest reward but more on that a little bit later. So let’s check out its description, stats..etc.

Usually, in dnd 5e monsters this flying snake is the brightly colored and winged serpent which has found in the small jungles. Al though the Tribespeople and also the cultists sometimes they do domesticate flying snakes for being serve like the messengers which delivers scrolls wrapped in their coils.

The flying snake is considered to be a tiny beast that is unaligned. It has an AC of 14 which is actually really high compared to a lot of the other beasts we’ve covered. Hit points of 5 calculated by rolling 2d4 and its speed is rather interesting as well so 30-foot basic movement, but 60-foot flying speed and 30-foot swim speed. So you can kind of do it all.

  • Type: Tiny Beast, Unaligned
  • AC: 14
  • HP: 5(2d4)
  • Speed: 30ft, fly 60ft, swim 30ft

Looking at his stats you’ll notice he’s incredibly dexterous. Fairly low intelligence however, not very strong or not very charismatic but hot damn is that dexterity not the stuff of nightmares, man i love it.

  • STR: 4(-3)
  • DEX: 18(+4)
  • CON: 11(+0)
  • INT: 2(-4)
  • WIS: 12(+1)
  • CHA: 5(-3)

Now let’s take a look at its senses here you’ll see a blindsight upto 10 feet which is kind of cool. Passive perception of 11 which is just man. However it does get access to flyby as does the owl by the way.

Flyby: The snake doesn’t provoke the Opportunity Attacks whenever it flies out of an enemy’s reach and through extension is technically immune sentinel as well. Because sentinel requires you to take the disengage action, this does not. Very cool stuff. Now speaking of actions. Let’s see what the flying snake has to offer.

Bite: By using this bite attack it can make a Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit which is awesome, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage plus 7 (3d4) poison damage.

Needless to say pretty good stuff. I think this is great for kind of testing low level adventurers that are maybe a little bit more experienced.

Reason being because of its speed, the snake can be used in so many different ways for example they could be wadding through a pond and next thing they know they have snakes flying all above them wrapping themselves around their angles and coming at them through the water as well.

I think that’d some pretty terrifying stuff but also quite cool. That being said a lot of people like having these as familiars obviously. I do allow it but i usually have them as a quest reward same with the trestle. Provide them as a quest reward or offer them for an outrageous sum of gold or some other valuable resource.
