Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for clicked on our 10th episode of our beast series. Today we’re venturing back into the jungles of schult to meet another fantastic creature. Today we are taking a look at the flying monkey and much like the owl mirage.
It can be taken as an optional familiar as soon as your DM gives you the permission. This is a cr0 a creature and it is found in the tomb of annihilation book which is a great adventure to be honest lots of world building stuff. Highly recommend you pick it up if you haven’t already. That being said let’s take a quick look at its stats here.
So the flying monkey is considered to be a small beast and unaligned although they do have a nasty habit of being quite mischievous. Their armor class is at 12 and their hit points there’d be a 3 but it’s really just a straight roll of a die 6. Its speed is interesting because it actually has 3 different movement types such as 20ft walking, 20ft climbing or 30 ft flying. Very cool stuff lots of versatility.
- Type: Small Beast, Unaligned
- AC: 12
- HP: 3(1D6)
- Speed: Walk 20ft, Climb 20ft, Fly 30ft
Taking a look at its stats along the side. You can see it’s quite dexterous and quite wise. Outside of that it’s also relatively charismatic compared to a lot of the other creatures. We’ve covered this far which makes sense. It’s also a little bit smarter and a little bit stronger than a couple of them as well which is quite interesting.
- STR: 8(-1)
- DEX: 14(+2)
- CON: 11(+0)
- INT: 5(-3)
- WIS: 12(+1)
- CHA: 6(-2)
Taking a look at its senses: it really only has passive perception of which is 11.
It does however come equipped with pack tactics: Which gives an advantage on a creature if at least one of its allies are within a 5 feet of the creature and so long as the ally is not incapacitated. Now let’s take a quick look at its actions here.
The monkey is capable of a bite attack. It is considered to be a melee weapon attack: +1 to hit range of 5 feet only one target and is technically a 1 piercing damage although it is calculated by 1d4 subtracted by 1.
- Melee weapon attack: +1 to hit
- Reach 5ft
- one target
- Hit: 1(1d4-1) piercing damage
Very cool stuff, i really love the flying monkeys. A cool way to use them in your campaign is to have the local fief killed, train them to steal valuable objects and have one steal from a party member and lead into a whole plot narrative from there.
That being said if you have any cool ways on how to incorporate the flying monkey into your game, please let me know down beneath. Also be sure to mention if you have any comments, questions, concerns, ideas or stories i really do appreciate it. That being said i hope you all have a great day and as always happy studying.
