Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you for tuning in to the 5th episode of our beast series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at one of the most heavily debated and scrutinized beats in the entire beast list the cat, ladies and gentlemen that’s right! of all the points of controversy and anger and malice.
This is the pinnacle at least we’ve covered so far. This dnd 5e cat monsters is found in the DMG it’s also found in the player’s handbook it’s not in a lot of places and it is a cr0 creature which means it’s no real challenge and it gets it 10 hit points or 10 experience we kill it. Now let’s take a quick look at its stats here and break them down a little bit.
So the cat is considered to be a tiny piece and it’s considered to be unaligned as most beasts are there’s an AC of 12 to hand points calculated by rolling a straight D4. Speed of 40 feet but it can also climb 30 feet which is pretty cool.
- Type: Tiny Beast, Unaligned
- AC: 12
- HP: 2(1d4)
- Speed: 40ft, climb 30ft.
Taking a look at its stats there you’ll notice pretty good dexterity, pretty good wisdom and decent CON but nothing else really to write home about.
- STR: 3(-4)
- DEX: 15(+2)
- CON: 10(+0)
- INT: 3(-4)
- WIS: 12(+1)
- CHA: 7(-2)
In terms of skills it gets a plus 3 bonus perception which is great and a plus 4 bonus to stealth which is awesome as well, As a passive perception of 13 and as keensmell which is advantage on perception checks that rely on smell.
Now as tons of people have pointed out on various forums its liking a couple of things for example dark vision and you can make an argument that it should be keen hearing and not keen smell also there’s nothing that kind of nerfs fall damage which i feel like a cat should have.
But whatever that’s what we got to work with. If you have any homebrew suggestions put down beneath in the comment section naturally but outside of that let’s get on to its actions.
The cat can only make one attack and that is a claw attack. It is a melee weapon attack, no modifier to hit so just a straight d20 roll. Reach of 5ft can only hit one target and deals one slashing damage which is pretty cool.
Claws: By using this claws attack this cat monster can make a Melee Weapon Attack: +0 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 slashing damage.
I really like cats they’re found pretty much anywhere; found in deserts, forests, grasslands and urban areas so its pretty easy to weave them into your campaigns. I’d make an argument that they make great spies i’d also make an argument that they’re great familiars pads just it’s very easy for them to blend into various places.
Keen Smell: The cat has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

That being said if you have any ideas on how to use them. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments, concerns please put them down beneath in the comments section and as always you guys happy studying.
