Camel Monster DnD 5E

Hello zoologists! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking in to the 34th episode of our beast series. Today we are going to be taking a look at another classic example of witches of the coast kind of messing with us a little bit at least in terms of glaring inaccuracies.

That being said we’re gonna be talking about the camel 5e monster. The camel is considered to be a CR:1/8 beast and it provides 25 experience points on a kill if you run your game like that. It is also found in the basic rules. So it’s in a couple different source books. That being said..let’s take a quick look at its stats here.

Stats

So the camel is actually considered to be a large beast. Which makes him our only a large beast covered so far just super exciting stuff. He’s also considered to be an unaligned as most beasts are. Looking at his AC is sadly a 9 which is actually puts him below a lot of the cr0 creatures which is pretty interesting.

He does however have access to 15 hit points calculated by rolling 2d10 and adding a +4 modifier. He also has a movement speed of 50 feet which is pretty impressive at least when compared to a lot of medium-sized creatures.

  • Type: Large Beast, Unaligned
  • AC: 9
  • HP: 15(2d10+4)
  • Speed: 50ft

Taking a look at his stats you’ll notice that he is one of these strongest beats we’ve covered so far. Clocking in at a +3 modifier for strength and a +2 modifier for constitution which makes him one of the most tough creatures we’ve covered so far as well. However the rest of his stats leave a lot to be desired. He’s not particularly dexterous. Pretty dumb! Not very wise and pretty dang uncharismatic as well.

  • STR: 16(+3)
  • DEX: 8(-1)
  • CON: 14(+2)
  • INT: 2(-4)
  • WIS: 8(-1)
  • CHA: 5(-3)

Now his senses are just a passive perception of 9. That’s it there is no crazy extra features or traits on the camel which is very disappointing, i would have liked to see something in regards to being able to dash is a bonus action maybe or anything. It’s something related to stamina perhaps anything just not that.

But whatever i mean he has pretty good stats so that kind of balances it out. That being says take a quick look at his actions here.

Actions

So the camel only has one action and that is a bite attack. It is considered to be a melee weapon attack.

Bite: This camel monster can make a Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) bludgeoning damage.

Very cool stuff i really like it. I feel disappointed about its senses, skills and other traits but at least has a pretty cool attack.

Conclusion

That being said! I think is best belong in a desert environment for sure maybe in a zoo or travelling circus but outside of that i can’t really imagine a lot of uses for them. It’s pretty clear that wizards of the coast made them exclusively usable for transport and it is one of the steeds available through the fine steed spell.

So it’s pretty interesting in that regard. That being said! let me know how you would fold it into your game and down beneath in the comment section. Also be sure to mention any questions, comments or concerns you may have. That being said i hope you have a great day and as always happy researching.
