DnD 5E Two-Weapon Fighting Style

Hello fighters! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the sixth and in some sense final episode of the fighting style 5e series. We do have a couple more articles after this but this will be the last article from the core rules and the next couple will be all about the tasha’s cauldron of everything editions.

Also let me know if you want me to dig through the unearthed arcana fighting styles and kind of let you know about those. There are a handful i believe like i think tunnel fighter is one and i think there’s two others as well. I can’t remember to be completely honest i’ve been kind of out of the fighter main forums and conversations for quite some time just because the class has never particularly interested me.

However today we’re going to be going over what most considered to be one of the best fighting styles we’re gonna be talking about two-weapon fighting which is absolutely mandatory or at least considered to be mandatory by many, if you’re panning on picking a dual-wielding character. In any case let’s dive right in to two-weapon fighting. Its description is as followed.

Whenever you engage in the two-weapon fighting, you could add your ability modifier for the damage of the second attack.

This is really interesting because outside of this fighting style dual wielding is in my opinion not super advisable. Logic would suggest that it would double your dpr however it really doesn’t. So there is that and this fighting style goes a long way to making that statement a heck of a lot more true.

That being said, there are other ways of doing it i suppose i think the swashbuckler offers something very similar and i feel like there’s a feat or two that use your bonus action as well in a relatively similar way. I think dnd 5e charger is one of them i don’t know, i can’t remember. It’s been a long time since i’ve gone over the older feats for the martial characters.

Once again usually a spellcaster my apologies. However i have been able to tell especially as i’ve done a little bit of research for this article that two weapon fighting is ludicrously popular. Now let’s move on to my personal thoughts.

I really like it! i think it’s neat. In terms of who’s likely to benefit from it most. I honestly want to say rogues. Namely as it relates to sneak attack and i know sneak attack is only a once a turn thing get all that one of my favorites classes is the arcane trickster. In any case sneak attack only applies if you hit the person right!

So, if you miss with your main attack you can hit with your bonus action attack and hopefully proc a sneak attack off of that. That’s where i think this is particularly beneficial and i can really see the rogue gaining quite a bit off of taking the fighting initiate 5e feat so bear that in mind.

That being said, i don’t know extra damage is always good. It scales really nicely as you dump more and more stats into whatever your primary damage dealing status be it dexterity or strength. Overall it’s just really nice.

In any case let me know what you think of two weapon fighting down beneath in the comment section. Be sure to mention any thoughts, questions, comments or concerns you have regarding it. That being said, i hope you have a great day and as always happy adventuring.
