Hello fighters! welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking 10th episode of our fighting style series. Today we’re going to be going over another one of the tasha’s cauldron of everything fighting styles. We’re going to be going over dnd 5e thrown weapon fighting style.
This is likely to be heavily used in a lot of campaigns and it might give a little bit more teeth to the throne weapons i’m imagining the spear in particular really gaining a ton out of this. That being said however it’s really similar to another fighting style we’ve covered so far. Now without further ado let’s take a moment and go over its description.
You can draw a weapon which has the thrown property as part of the attack you make with a weapon. In an addition, whenever you hit with a ranged attack using a thrown weapon, you actually gain a +2 bonus to the damage roll.
Now this is actually really interesting in terms of wording because it sets a rather dangerous precedent for a lot of throwing means that currently exist and that’s that drawing the weapon isn’t necessarily part of the attack action. Which is interesting, very similar to how crossbow expert works with a loading property right!
So it is really interesting and its something that i haven’t been fully aware of. So maybe it’s always been a thing maybe now it might just be a problem but i know in all of the games i’ve played i’ve never called for them to use any resource to draw a weapon. Very interesting!
Outside of that plus two to damage rolls..really great stuff. Once again very similar to one of the other fighting styles we’ve gone over namely dueling. So it is interesting .Now let’s move on to my personal thoughts here.
Overall i’m actually really happy this is a thing. Just because i feel like the thrown weapons have had mismatched usefulnesses throughout different builds and i would like to see them a little bit more in the forefront. Not really for any reason in particular although i do find it really sad when there’s a fighting enemy involved and the fighter and or the barbarian are just kind of on the ground waiting for it to land.
It’s almost comical but in a sense it seems kind of boring so i think this is a good way to make sure that isn’t an issue. I also haven’t seen very many thrown weapons builds to be completely honest. I’ve seen a couple interesting ones with the spear and i know a lot of those players were really happy when spearmaster was first talked about.
However since that feat has not really come into the core game as it were. They’ve been a little bit disappointed, so hopefully this will perk them up a little bit. The being said, it seems fine overall. Gaining any kind of flat bonus to damage is always really nice.
That being said, i don’t quite know how well this would scale. I suppose it scales with multi-attack and action surge but outside of that i’m not 100 percent sure.
That being said, let me know what you think of thrown weapon fighting down beneath in the comments section. I also feel like the rogue could get a ton of usefulness out of this as well. That being said, let me know what you guys think. Of course i hope you all have a wonderful day and as always happy adventuring.
