Hello adventurers of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to the 63rd episode of our feats series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at dnd 5e telepathic feat. This particular feat is found in the unearthed arcana guide so it’s only really available for play testable material. Needless to say run it past your DM if you’re gonna pick it. Personally i don’t i’d allow it and i’ll get into why in a little bit here. Without further ado let’s take a look at description so we know exactly what we’re talking about.
First and foremost there is no prerequisite for this one. Anyone of any class, race, or ability score can take it no problem. It reads as followed.
You’ve been awaken an ability for being mentally connect with others and it granting you the below mentioned benefits:
- It increases your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
- You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice from the following list: Deception, Insight, Intimidation, or Persuasion.
- Mainly, you can speak some telepathically for any creature that you can see within 60 feet of you. Of course your telepathic utterances are in the language that you know, and of course the particular understands you only if it knows that specific language. Al though, your communication does not give a creature the capability to respond to you in a telepathic way.
- Of course you can even cast the Detect Thoughts spell, which requires no spell slot or components and also you should finish a long rest before you could cast it this way again. Your spellcasting ability for a spell is an ability increased by this feat. However suppose if you have spell slots of 2nd level or higher, you can cast this spell with them. Now let’s do a quick walkthrough.
So, your intelligence score increases by 1. Pretty standard not really a whole lot to discuss there. You can choose one additional proficiency between deception insight intimidation or persuasion which are all really really good things to have proficiency in so doesn’t really so much matter which one you pick there. The cool thing is the ability to telepathically communicate.
So the way it’s worded what it implies is that you can telepathically communicate with any creature regardless of whether or not it knows a language. But it needs to at least one language to respond back to you. So however your DM wants to incorporate that is up to their discretion. But it’s just a rather interesting way of being worded. Now let’s get into my personal thoughts.
Personally, i’d tweak it a little bit. So i would make the prerequisite an intelligence score of at least 13. I think that’s pretty fair and i would also make us so a target needs to know one language to be communicated with as well. If it did that i’d probably allow it, it’s still a really good feat but there are ultimately feats are there that i consider to be a little bit better with those modifications being made. So if i did that then i’d probably allow it.
That being said! let me know what your thoughts are. If you have any ideas, cool uses or stories involving Telepathic feat or how you would change it to make it more addressable in your game. Thank you so much everyone hope you have a great day and as always happy adventuring.
