DnD 5E Outlaw Background

Just few days back i have made a Gunslinger by using the Matt Mercer’s archetype and of course it has been inspired a background that i was proud of; that is known as “dnd outlaw background”. Of course it is almost similar to the Folk Hero in PHB with a defining event and it even uses the similar suggested characteristics and of course the same feature too, but with a more western feel.

Outlaw: You’re the notorious free adventurer those who because of the unfortunate circumstances have been lost a favor with the law. Al though, being of a common people, they are always try to protect you due to your just nature.  However a protector of some people, a thorn in a side of authorities.


  • Skill proficiencies: Survival, and choose 1 from: Deception, Performance, Intimidation
  • Tool proficiencies: Disguise Kit
  • Equipment: A hunting trap, an iron pot, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp

Defining Event

Even though you’re once just a common civilian, a specific happening which is caused you for drastically change your lifestyle and also take off for a life of the dangerous wondering and also in some cases revenge. You can select or else randomly determine a defining event which is marked you as an outlaw.

9I was framed for a crime I didn't commit.

Feature: Rustic Hospitality

As per this feature the Rustic Hospitality Since you have come out from the ranks of common folk, you are fit among them with an ease. Of course you could find a specific place to hide, rest, or else recuperate among some other commoners, unless until you shown yourself as to be a danger to them. However they shall shield you from either a law or anyone else those are searching for you, even though they shall not take risk of their lives for you.

The dnd 5e outlaw background is a folk hero for some of the common people those who takes pride in his humble origins and also revels in disrupting authority to help those he’s close to. i normally make them myself or else i may base them off of a premade suggestions in players handbook and even make them my own depending on the character’s backstory.
